Will I get flagged for giving away gold?
So, I don't know if this is true, but I'm pretty sure Anet catches people selling gold by looking at the logs and seeing if someone traded someone 100k or more in a short period of time and determines whether or not they were trading the gold to the person who bought it online. If this is true, and since I'm quitting for awhile, I don't want to give away all my gold if it means getting banned for Anet thinking I'm the gold-seller, and my friend is the gold-buyer. Is this true, or do they go through more? Like check the account's activity, chat, etc?

Well i've wondered the same thing, two mates of mine who left Pve completely gave me some cash and ecto to sell to fund my title hunting for nothing in return.
I was just thinking about this actually, will i get flagged... in any case, if i do they'll read the chat log and see it's nothing |

Who reports people who sell the gold? How do they know the people are the gold sellers when all they do is go up to the person who bought the gold, and give it to them? Why would the buyer report the person they're buying the gold from?
So I doubt most gold sellers get caught by being reported. I'm talking about the logs. |

Well, I just worry because giving away 500k in about 30 seconds seems pretty suspicious to me.. if I were looking at it from outside the situation.

Anet shouldn't ban someone for doing that... it's like selling a mini ghostly for a crapload of cash. Non merchant items don't have a fixed value and the buyer and seller set the prices. If you want to pay 100k for a pile of glittering dust and a mini devourer, who is going to stop you?

To make it as easy as possible for a GM that looks to see that it wasn't gold selling, why not have them join team first. Then discuss in team chat that you're friends and giving your gold away because they're going to keep playing while you are not, at least not for a while.
Then, if you happen to get swept up in some sort of filter program, you can direct support to team chat at the time of the trade if they don't spot it themselves. Cheers |

Here's an idea. Contact support and tell them you'll be giving away all your gold to a friend and supply support with your account credentials (your email and character name that you will be using) so that they know it was your if a flag does come up. You'll have your proof (the emails/"My Stuff" for your PlayNC) that you contacted support and gave them a heads up in case anything did happen.
Good luck. ~LeNa~

honestly posting this would be credible enough, but i dont think its a good idea unless you drop the gold in a explorable area in small incriments maybe like a hide&seek? just so you dont get flagged for giving high amounts of gold away(if its a lump sum ea time like 50k+).

Contact them in advance. A Guildie got banned for moving 500k from one of his accounts to another in our Guildhall. He got the ban lifted eventually since the trade was proven to be between two accounts connecting from the same IP address, but it took a while and was a royal pain in the ass.

I have multiple accounts and transfer items on an almost daily basis, though not on the scale of 500k. |

I doubt they would say anything if its a 1 off thing, if however you had someone give you 200k today, and you give away 200k tomorrow, then the day after someone else gives you 200k and you give it away again, then yea id say that be drawing alot of attention to yourself,

I would assume that gold sellers would use the same account to do a number of gold transactions, not just one or two. Also, the gold sellers transactions would tend to be more random in nature. I would think that if you give away some gold to a few people within your own Guild or circle of friends, it should be no problem. It may look suspicious, so you might be tracked for a while, but I doubt that any real problems would arise. Btw, I'm not sure that trading some trash for gold is a good idea or not. It may depend upon whether or not gold sellers do it too. |
